What We Believe

At Redeeming Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Port Angeles, Washington, we seek to glorify God through Christ-centered teaching, biblical worship, and lives shaped by His Word.

We hold to the historic truths of the Christian faith, summarized in the Five Solas — Scripture Alone, Christ Alone, Grace Alone, Faith Alone, and God’s Glory Alone.

As part of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church, we are guided by the Westminster Confession of Faith and Catechisms. These truths help us remain faithful to Scripture as we worship, serve, and grow together in grace.

Below you’ll find a brief overview of what we believe about key aspects of the Christian faith. These summaries reflect the biblical convictions that guide our life together as a church, as we seek to honor Christ in all things.

God

We worship the one true God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — who is sovereign over all things and gracious in His works of creation, providence, and redemption. In our worship, we confess Him as the living God, joining our voices in the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds.

Scripture and Confession

We believe the Bible is God’s inspired and inerrant Word — fully trustworthy and the final authority for faith and life. As a historic Reformed and Presbyterian church, we joyfully confess the Westminster Standards. Though not equal to Scripture in authority, we receive them as a faithful summary of biblical teaching and a valuable guide for discipleship.

Humanity & Sin

All people are created in God’s image, yet we are fallen in sin and unable to save ourselves apart from His grace. In Adam, our federal head under the covenant of works, all humanity fell into sin and death, bearing guilt and corruption.

Covenant

God has revealed His grace and purposes through covenants. In Christ, the second Adam, God establishes the covenant of grace, bringing salvation and life to all who turn from sin and trust in Him. This covenant has been offered to humanity throughout history, so that salvation has always been through faith in Jesus Christ.

Salvation

Salvation is possible through faith alone in Jesus Christ, not by our good works or deeds. Through faith alone, believers are united to Christ, forgiven of their sins, considered righteous before God, and saved from sin and death. Believers are united to Christ through the Holy Spirit, and the Spirit helps us to grow in faith and obedience to God. By God’s grace alone, believers are kept by his power so that we cannot fall from grace.

Church

The church is Christ’s body, called to worship, grow in faith, and bear witness to the gospel in word and deed. We are governed by elders in a Presbyterian form of church government, following the pattern set forth in Scripture. Our congregation is a member of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC), joyfully united with other churches in proclaiming Christ and advancing His kingdom.

Sacraments

We affirm baptism and the Lord’s supper as signs and seals of God’s covenant promises, strengthening believers in their walk with Christ. As an Orthodox Presbyterian Church, we encourage the baptism of believers and their children as a sign of God’s promises to them. We serve the Lord’s Supper to those who are united to Christ by faith and members of his Church, who are mature enough to discern what the bread and cup represent for us.

Fellowship

We believe the church is a family in Christ, called to love, encourage, and bear one another’s burdens. Although we come from different backgrounds, nothing should separate believers in Jesus Christ from loving one another just as Christ loved us.

Ministry

We believe Christ builds His church through the ordinary means of grace — the Word, the Sacraments, and Prayer. These are the central priorities of our ministry, drawing people to Christ and building them up in faith and comfort.

Hope

Our blessed hope is that Christ will return, to raise the dead, to judge the righteous and the wicked, and renew all creation. On that day of judgment and salvation, Jesus will remove all sin, sorrow, and death for believers. Until that day, we proclaim Jesus Christ as the only assurance of hope to face God’s final judgment of the world.
